Whiplash Injuries

|

If you’ve been injured in a car accident you may have sustained a flexion/extension injury to your cervical spine. Commonly referred to as “whiplash injuries” they can be a sign of serious underlying disruptions to the internal anatomy of the spine, the discs, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Prompt treatment is important, a visit to the ER for an X-ray evaluation to rule out a fracture is a good idea. Thereafter a follow-up with your doctor or one recommended by the hospital is a must.

The standard treatment protocol for serious whiplash injuries typically involves a combination of pain management, physical therapy, and possibly immobilization with a cervical collar or brace. It's important to accurately diagnose the extent of the injury and tailor the treatment plan accordingly.

Many of these injuries resolve in weeks to months, but some don’t and unfortunately can go on to require long-term care or surgery. If you’ve suffered an injury, call us at 312/372-9600. We are here to help and can advise you on the best course.
