Automated Speed Enforcement cameras have been placed at 5471 West Higgins Avenue in Jefferson Park and they will go live this Sunday and begin issuing speeding tickets to speed violators.
Fines for violations in a safety zone will be as follows:
- $35 for vehicles traveling 6 to 10 mph over the posted speed limit
- $100 for vehicles traveling 11 or more mph over the posted speed limit
The City of Chicago along with CDOT plans to install more ASE cameras around parks and schools in an effort to increase safety and reduce speeding. Revenue generated by the program will go toward various safety initiatives including, but not limited to:
- after-school programs
- anti-violence programs
- jobs programs
- crossing guards in school zones

- the enforcement hours in school safety zones will be from 7am to 7pm Monday through Friday;
- a 20 mph speed limit when children are present from 7am to 4pm;
- the posted speed limit when no children are present;
- the posted speed limit from 4pm to 7pm;
