In this segment of Community Safety Forum, Chicago personal injury attorney Jim Morici interviews guest Dr. William Harper. Doctor Harper is a physician at the University of Chicago and the director of the Program for Personalized Health & Prevention at the University of Chicago Medical Center. He is also the lead internist for the Chicago Blackhawks and the founder and CEO of Engaged Health Solutions.
A lot of people perceive health as going to the doctor only when they are sick or not feeling well. Dr. Harper’s program and business focuses on helping people take care of themselves before they get sick. This is the main concept of preventative medicine. Attorney Jim Morici, states “our own personal well-being and safety is probably the most important thing to any of us as individuals”. Dr. Harper explains,” a lot of the sickness that we get is preventable, whether it’s diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or even something as simple as the common cold there are certain things you can do in order to prevent them from happening.”
People who are healthy behave helpfully, feel better, and have more energy “ If you take care of yourself, you’re not going to cost as much to an employer and maybe that reflects back into lower health care premiums for the employee,” Dr. Harper explains the correlation between healthy employees and the health care system.
