Nine people were hurt, three critically, when four cars collided this afternoon on North Lake Shore Drive, just south of Chicago Avenue.
The car crash occurred about 2:30 p.m. and shut down all northbound lanes, said Quention Curtis, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman. Lanes were reopened at 3:28 p.m., said Chicago Police New Affairs Officer Michael Fitzpatrick.
Three people were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, Curtis said. Two were taken to Illinois Masonic and one to Northwestern, Fitzpatrick said.
Six other people were treated at the scene and were not being taken to hospitals, officials said.
