Off-Duty Cop Killed in Kennedy Crash

An off-duty Chicago police officer was killed this morning in a one-car crash on the northbound Kennedy Expressway that slowed traffic at the start of the morning rush, Illinois State Police said.

The accident occurred at Nagle Avenue at 3:47 a.m.The off-duty police officer was ejected from his
2007 Volkswagen and killed. His identity was not being released.

There was no evidence alcohol was a factor in the crash, but the cause was under investigation, police said.

The center and left lanes of the northbound expressway were blocked for several hours, but had been cleared by 7 a.m.

A Chicago police spokesman declined to confirm that the man in the crash was an officer, and the Cook County medical examiner said it was not releasing the man's name.
